Overflow is without a doubt one of the vocal highlights on Frequency, the upcoming album by Berliner rising neo-classical piano virtuoso and free spirited all-round musician Dario Lessing. The guest vocalist James Chatburn is well known amongst neo-soul fans, having worked with artist like The Internet or Jordan Rakei in the past.
Overflow is built upon a meditative piano lines, enriched with warm analogue synth bass, creating the atmosphere of a misty autumn sunrise.
The two Berlin based artists have been working together before on many occasions, Overflow resulting from one of the many jams they had together:
"We met a few times at gigs and Dario has this energy when he gets excited about music. I didn't know what he was doing when we met for the first session but years later we have spent days and days and days in the studio collaborating"
The initial inspiration for the song actually happened live during the soundcheck and it was one of these magical, spontanous moments that make this entire album so special. As Chatburn remembers:
The second single from the album was presented live for the first time at this years Reeperbahn Festival during a magical live show in the beautiful St. Pauli Church. More gigs will be announced soon.
The last two years since his first release via Deutsche Grammophon have been turbulent for the Berlin native piano virtuoso, producer, and singer Dario Lessing: with an eclectic mix of beautiful piano pieces (DNA I), collaborations with other producers (Robot Koch, Andrew Applepie, AK and more) and alternative pop projects (Better Days EP with Rezar premiered on COMPLEX), his online following grew from zero to almost one million monthly listeners. Besides his constant output, the classically trained pianist started releasing sheet music of his magical pieces due to high demand on Instagram by fans from all over the world. He composed scores for fashion outlets (Tings Magazine), commercials (Bertelsmann) and is now preparing his collab-filled album Frequency with guest vocalists featured on every one of the eleven tracks. In short – Lessing represents a new breed of self-made artists and producers that collaborate without musical or geographical boarders. His capability to catch the very core of other artists creativity leads to uniquely direct and intuitive records with a spiritual, often mystical character.
Freshly signed on the prestigious Modern Recordings (Pat Metheney, Sebastian Knauer, Robot Koch…), the album is also Lessing’s first to be released on vinyl and was presented live during Reeperbahn Festival 2021 in Hamburg:
